| Why Should I Collect? |
|
Animation art is recognized as the
fastest growing collectible art form on the
market.
This trend began in 1984 when a
Christie's fine art auction brought the "cel
scene" into the limelight, selling a
single Mickey Mouse cel for $20,000.
Then in the
spring of 1989, hundreds of collectors and
spectators squeezed into the expansive galleries
of Christie's East in Manhattan.
Three hours
later, more than 250 pieces of animation art were
snapped up for a total of $1.8 million. The high
bid, $286,000, was a world record.
Since then the
market has seen an astounding increase every
year.
